Understanding the Kasilof

Flowing from Tustumena Lake to the Cook Inlet, the Kasilof is smaller and shallower than the Kenai, making it perfect for drift boats and peaceful floats.

The Fishery

Unlike the Kenai, the Kasilof does not allow motors for fishing. This means every trip is a peaceful, downstream drift. The river supports a strong hatchery King Salmon run starting in June, followed by massive surges of Sockeye Salmon. In the fall, the Kasilof is one of the premier Steelhead rivers on the Peninsula.

  • June Hatchery Kings The Crooked Creek hatchery provides an early run of harvestable King Salmon before the wild run arrives.
  • Drift Boat Exclusivity No engine noise, no massive wakes. Just the sound of oars and eagles.
