License FAQ
Do I need a fishing license as a guest on a guided trip?
Yes. An Alaska sport fishing license is required for every angler regardless of age (16+) and is NOT included in your guided trip package. Purchase before your trip at the ADF&G website or any local sporting goods store.
Do I need a King Salmon Stamp?
Yes, if you intend to retain a King Salmon. The King Salmon Stamp costs $25 and must be purchased in addition to your sport fishing license. Without it, you can still fish for Kings but must release everything.
Where do I buy a license?
Online at the ADF&G website (adfg.alaska.gov), at Fred Meyer, Walmart, or any local sporting goods store in Soldotna. We recommend buying online before your trip so you arrive ready to fish.
Do children need a license?
Anglers under 16 years of age are NOT required to hold a sport fishing license in Alaska. They can fish with your group for free. Great for family trips.
What happens if I fish without a license?
Fishing without a valid license is a misdemeanor in Alaska and can result in fines up to $300 plus forfeiture of any catch. ADF&G enforcement officers do check licenses regularly on the Kenai River.
Are regulations different for residents vs non-residents?
Some bag limits differ. For King Salmon, non-residents may have different limits than residents depending on ADF&G emergency orders. We always brief guests on current regulations before the trip.
